Living in Lakeland, Florida, are Claudia and her daughter Ava. Claudia quickly became recognized as a protective mom in the two months after she gave birth to Ava. Claudia rarely left her daughter’s side, and if they never had to be apart, it would be perfect. But of course, the fact is that she still has her duties at work. Claudia got a call from the office asking her to participate in a business conference. It would have needed her to leave Ava at home, but she refused to do so.

Claudia immediately listed her options after she finished the call. None of the choices she came up with, however, seemed to be particularly appealing. It was an option between losing an important chance for a career or staying at home and taking care of her daughter. In the months before, Claudia had already taken her maternity leave as well as a few sick days to look after Ava. She realized she was going to go to that meeting. What she didn’t realize was that anything bewildering would result from this decision.
