The Plan
Even though it was his night off, deputy head of hotel management, Henri Paul, was given the special task to drive the pair. Paul, Dodi, Diana, and a bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones left the hotel via the back all while two decoy vehicles would drive out from the front. At the time, it was early morning of August 31, 1997.

As a result, Paul soon encountered darkness but the paparazzi were notified about the situation and began chasing the Mercedes. According to some conflicting reports, the press tried to unsuccessfully “block” Paul so that he would slow down. But instead, the limo kept going hurriedly, reaching speeds of around 65 mph before colliding.
