Julian was apprehensive as he watched the veterinarian perform a series of medical examinations on Whiskers. He secretly hoped that Whiskers was in fact having some sort of issue. At least that would account for his peculiar actions. However, what if he was in perfect health? They would probably have to decide between their cat and their pregnant child if Whiskers kept acting suspiciously. They could have to take the infant to a shelter if Whiskers was unable to adapt. Julian felt himself holding his breath while the veterinarian worked since the concept was so upsetting. What was Whiskers’s problem? Why was he acting so strangely? Did they overlook something?

The vet finally set down his instruments after what seemed like a lifetime. “I’m finished,” he sighed deeply. Julian’s heart fell when the veterinarian said, “I’m sorry to inform you, Julian.” He went on, “I don’t see anything wrong with your cat.” He trailed off, saying, “I’ve tested Whiskers medically and looked into every reason why his behavior changed, but I found nothing.”
