Leslie West

Leslie West, a 75-year-old rock guitarist, died on December 23, two days after suffering cardiac arrest. Mountain was founded by West in 1969, and he played on the second day of Woodstock with them. He worked with The Who, Bo Diddley, Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, and others throughout his career. West made his big screen debut in Family Honor and The Money Pit during one of Mountain’s breakups.

John ‘Ecstasy’ Fletcher

Ecstasy, a founding member of the pioneering hip-hop group Whodini, died of unidentified causes at the age of 56. In 1982, Fletcher and fellow rapper Jalil Hutchins formed the group, which later included DJ Grandmaster Dee. Whodini is regarded as a hip-hop pioneer. Other artists have strongly sampled their songs “Friends” as well as “Five Minutes of Funk.”
