Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart was the first female aviator to fly alone across the Atlantic Ocean. She disappeared in 1937 when she and Fred Noonan began what they thought would be the first around the world flight. They had landed on an island called Howland (New Guinea) after completing almost 2/3 of the and turning low on fuel. However, they disappeared somewhere on the Pacific Ocean on July 2, 1937. Rescuers looked for them but they were never found. In 1939 they were declared dead. Today more than 80 years after, many historians and researchers are still trying to figure out the disappearance of this role-model woman.
