Some people wondered at first whether the dog was truly a hero, or if he jumped in to get the deer because he thought it was food. His owner, Mark, was quick to jump in and defend his furry best friend.

“I was there, and if anybody knows Storm, they know that’s not in his heart. He is the most gentle, gracious dog you ever want to meet.” Usually, Golden Retrievers are not known for being aggressive or attacking another animal for prey.

Mark recorded the incident using his phone and the video went viral. It proved Storm’s quick thinking saved the fawn dramatically seeing as the deer was in complete shock.

Even though the deer was still breathing, Storm did not leave the deer’s side and nurtured the fawn as though it were one of his pups who he had rescued from the water. Mark never doubted that Storm was special, but now his dog was a hero, too!
