Having been casted as Miss Mona in The Best Little Whorehouse actually suited Dolly well. She ran a brothel called Chicken Ranch in the movie. Dolly later on explained how her signature look was inspired by an actual courtesan! In one of her interviews, she said that when she was a kid she once saw a woman wearing red lipstick, high heels and had big yellow hair. She said that she knew then, even as a kid, that she wanted to have the same look!

But what’s amazing is not just about the length of time they have been together, it’s also because they were very private about their relationship. In fact, Dolly chose to use her maiden name in her performances instead of her legal one – Dolly Parton Dean. Meanwhile, her husband has kept himself out of the public eye, he has only seen one of Dolly’s live performances!
