But our chuckles soon faded into silence. “Alright, seriously… any thoughts?” Mark asked, his tone turning earnest. I sighed, the weight of uncertainty settling over me again. We needed a real plan. I turned to Mark, my voice barely audible. “You should’ve seen Mom last night. Her eyes… they were cold.” He nodded, his expression steady. “Do you think she’s hiding something?” “Exactly,” I replied, relieved to have someone who understood. “Something about the way she was acting just didn’t feel right. It didn’t add up.” Mark met my gaze, his tone resolute. “We’ll figure it out,” he said, offering one of his signature reassuring nods.
