Name That Skipper!

Gilligan’s Island fans may have thought Skipper had never even gotten a name. Actually, that’s not the case. In the show’s pilot episode in 1964, his name Jonas Grumby was mentioned. Do you remember the episode where Alan Hale Jr.’s character died? In that episode his ashes was scattered and someone made a comment that “It’s what ‘The Skipper’ would have wanted.” Perhaps they also didn’t remember that it was actually Jonas!

You don’t need to become a producer for you to know the meaning of a fourth wall, but for the benefit of the unaware, the fourth wall is the space separating the cast from the crew or audience. Skipper (Alan Hale Jr.) gained notoriety for tearing down this wall by staring straight into the camera and making a face. For the time, this wasn’t very common among what was on TV. In addition, supposedly, the show was to produce movie No.4, but that’s a different story!
