We already explained that Gilligan is just a name that was randomly selected for the character Bob Denver played. However, there was a bit more effort involved when they chose Ginger for Tina Louise’s character. It appears that they got inspiration from two of Hollywood’s greatest legends from its Golden Era – Ginger Rogers and Cary Grant. As a matter of fact, the hit show referenced Cary Grant a lot.

Surely, you recall the family sitcom, Alf about the alien! However, you might have forgotten about that incredible crossover episode. Let’s jog your memory. Basically, Alf dreamt of getting stranded on yup, you guessed it…Gilligan’s Island. Thus, Alf got to spend some time on the island with the whole cast from Gilligan’s Island. Every member of the original cast was in the unique special from Alan Hale Jr. to Russell Johnson, Dawn Wells and obviously, the celebrated Bob Denver!
