It was only a matter of time before the police ended up meeting with Schaffen. He and his new wife both received suspensions from the Middletown Township Fire Department, their workplace. On paper, they were put on “administrative leave”. We don’t blame the higher-ups for their decision.

An investigation ensued. In the end, the local judges determined that it was only right for the couple to get a punishment for their behavior. This sparked more debate about whether it was appropriate to do this to them. Some, however, said this was certainly a criminal offense.
