I don’t think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time.” It is possible that the Queen will never abdicate the throne, perhaps because she considers it not a privilege but her duty. In 1947, Elizabeth gave a speech on her 21st birthday. She said, “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service.”
