In the original script made by the writers, producers, and directors of The Andy Griffith Show, Andy Taylor was the role which was supposed to be the very hilarious one. However, after filming the first episode of the show, Andy realized that Don’s humor was one of a kind and that led him to make his co-star take the spotlight of being the funny one. The whole crew also agreed that Knotts should take the comic role and Andy should take the more serious one.

As you all know, back in the days when The Andy Griffith Show was still filming, the directors and producers did not have a huge amount of funds with them to make the series so flawless. One of the craziest things that the crew did just to finish a season was the moment when they used a setting of Mayberry that was originally used in Star Trek. This was confirmed because a couple of Star Trek’s cast could be seen walking in the set of The Andy Griffith Show.
