However, in real life, without all the cameras placed in front of their faces, Knotts and Griffith were both actually the serious type of people. The Truth About Opie’s Mother

The show started with the plot revolving around a widower, Andy Taylor and his son, who has never had the chance to meet his mother. It’s kind of strange that none of the episodes talked about the mother’s story except for the “Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee” episode as Andy Taylor talked with his son about his mother. All he said was she died when Opie was still young, and he also talked about how much he loved her. After that episode, the mother never became the topic ever again.
