By refusing to open the gift, Brandon and Kathy had to work through their differences and resolve their struggles. “That box went beyond what I believe my great aunt had intended,” Kathy said. She went on, “[It] was high on the shelf in different closets gathering dust, yet somehow it taught us about tolerance, understanding, compromise, and patience.”
