Following a medical examination prior to the 1991-1992 season of the NBA, Magic was tested HIV positive and the player publicly announced in November 1991 not only his diagnostic test but also his immediate withdrawal from basketball. He would finally humbly confess he had slept with several women before finding out about his HIV status. But while this shocking news raked the nation, sports fans gathered around the athlete.
