The divorce of Humphrey Boggart from his wife, Mayo Methot, occurred after Boggart had an affair with Lauren Bacall, his then 19-year-old costar, while on the set of To Have and Have Not, which is possibly the most famous case of a celebrity leaving their spouse for a mistress in Hollywood history. Boggart was evidently taken with Bacall, as evidenced by the fact that he married her six months after their divorce and the two remained together for the next 12 years, until Boggart’s death.
