Before he worked on X-Men and The Notebook, he modeled for Versace and took up broadcast journalism in college. He left college to pursue his acting career a year and a half into his degree. In 1993, he earned small parts in The Nanny and Saved by the Bell. The year after that, he appeared in his first feature film and racked up roles in various TV shows and movies. Before Jason Lewis played Smith in Sex and the City, he was a sought-after model. He has previously worked with brands like Guess, Hugo Boss, and Tommy Hilfiger. After graduating from college, he went to Milan and Paris to pursue his modeling career. As an actor, he got his big screen debut in a romantic comedy called Next Stop Wonderland. He landed a recurring part in Beverly Hills 90210 as well. Aside from his biggest role in Sex and the City, he was also in How I Met Your Mother, CSI, and Charmed. He was also a regular in films. In 2018, he worked on Midnight, Texas and Half Magic.
