She was introduced to another nun who had been living in Chile for the past 17 years. Monica describes this woman as a “beautiful American with a great personality”. She went on to say, ” it was not love at first sight, I was on the other side of the world. Within a few months, Monica and her new friend, Peg got to know each other very well and were extremely grateful for their friendship. Except, their friendship then began to blossom into something more…they had fallen in love with each other! They instantly knew that this was something forbidden within their communities. It was also known that discrimination against homosexuals was encouraged and many preached hate towards people like them. The question is what were they to do?
