Girlboss
Girlboss was inspired by the book of the same name and follows the story of the founder of Nasty Gal, Sophia Amoruso. However, although the producers had high hopes for the show, it seems the viewership didn’t quite live up to their expectations. In 2017 Netflix decided not to renew it for the next season. Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix said in a statement to Vanity Fair how shows can be canceled for numerous reasons, but it’s “mostly, it is how many people watch.”
Seven Seconds
In 2018 Netflix canceled the show Seven Seconds after just one season. Nevertheless, they were careful to ensure fans got the closure they needed as the show was only supposed to be a standalone story. The plot centered on the unexplained death of an African American boy, and audiences were gripped throughout. The VP of Original Content at Netflix, Cindy Holland, said, “We loved working with Veena, Regina and the cast and crew of Seven Seconds. Together they created a compelling, timely, and relevant crime drama. The first season is a complete, stand-alone story that we are proud to feature on Netflix for years to come.”
