Cashing In
The story gained instant popularity and Nadya received numerous offers from tabloid publications. With fourteen children, she had good reason to cash in and receive money for interviews. Nevertheless, after public interest waned, Nadya had a difficult time. Nadya discussed that time period with the reporter and reflected on how “I was pretending to be a fake, a caricature, which is something I’m not, and I was doing it out of desperation and scarcity so I could provide for my family.” She added, “I’ve been hiding from the real world all my life.”

Nadya told the reporter about her personal life. “I was the classic victim, a victim of having an alcoholic father, a victim of having been an only child, hungry to fill that void and victim of fate since I couldn’t conceive naturally.” She then added how “most of all, I was misled by my doctor.” Dr. Kamrava told Nadya that she only wanted twins at first, but “told me we lost six embryos, he said they were expelled out of me, and that’s why he wanted to implant another six.”
