These Iconic Movie Scenes Have Made People Hit Pause For Decades Now

Published on 06/18/2020

It would seem like filmmakers are fond of playing little games with the people who watch their films. We are not referring to anything malicious. They simply like to drop subtle details that might make the audience wonder, “Was that what I think it was!?” If you are watching in the cinemas, there is no way for you to rewind and check it out again. But with modern technological innovations, you now have the opportunity to rewatch these scenes to confirm it as you watch the movie from the comfort of your home! What scenes have made you pause the movie and check for a small detail that you spotted?

These Iconic Movie Scenes Have Made People Hit Pause For Decades Now

We are sure that there have some scenes that you had to see one more time right away for one reason or another. Maybe it was Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street. It could also be the Wizard of Oz scene when the munchkin allegedly hung himself. Perhaps you had to take a moment when you found the hilarious cameo of Jimmy Buffet in Jurassic Park. At any rate, the following scenes have all made people hit the pause button and watch it all over again.

Boogie Nights – Changing Room Scene

Did you think that a film about a porn character would not get a lot of critical acclaim? Paul Thomas Anderson has managed to prove every single one of us wrong! Boogie Nights, which came out in 1997, followed a porn star called Dirk Diggler. The film teased the viewers about the size of his member, but we did not get to see it until the end of the film. People paused to see it up close, but the truth was that it was actually a prosthetic!

Thor: The Dark World – Chalkboard Scene

Just so you know, films from the Marvel Studios had a lot of scenes that were worth pausing for. Now boasting more than 20 movies, there are plenty of Easter eggs in the movies. Fans have dedicated themselves to looking for every single secret message in the film. We want you to focus on a particular scene in Thor: The Dark World, which is one of the least popular movies in the series. In this scene, you should check out what Dr. Selvig has scribbled over the chalkboard while he was in the mental health facility. If you look at it closely, you will realize that these are real astronomical and mathematical theories and equations. ‘Nidavellir’ is also scribbled there. Let us just say that it went on to be a big part of Avengers: Infinity War.

Iron Man 2 – Nick Fury Scene

Here is another Marvel movie that had fans press the pause button in order to look for clues. Do you remember when Nick Fury and Tony Stark met at the end of Iron Man 2? Behind them was a video screen that showed areas with superhero activity. Take a closer look because the map shows “hotspots” like New Mexico, Greenland, and Africa. Respectively, these were the locations of Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s body, and Wakanda! There was also a mysterious one in the Atlantic Ocean. A lot of people believe that this is Atlantis, where Namor is.

The Back-Up Plan – Mirror Scene

Starring Jennifer Lopez, The Back-up Plan follows her character after she underwent artificial insemination and the subsequent pregnancy. You are probably aware that some folks out there have a fixation on the backside of the actress. This has been going on for quite some time now! There was one scene that let viewers see her derriere as she examined her body in the mirror. Even though many people hit the pause button right away, they are probably not aware that it was not even her. They actually used a body double for this scene. Sorry, folks, try again next time.

There’s Something About Mary – Zipper Scene

It is pretty impressive that There’s Something About Mary is still going strong as a comedy classic. Can you believe that it has been over two decades since it was released? Anyway, the movie comes with a lot of memorable scenes. However, we want to direct your attention to the moment when Bet Stiller accidentally trapped his manhood in the zipper just before prom. Even thinking about it is enough to make us wince, so we don’t really get why people like to go back to this scene.

Tron – Flying Solar Sailer Scene

The truth is that you can find Mickey Mouse in almost every single Disney movie. We are not referring to the cartoon character himself but to the recognizable silhouette that his head makes! Disney produced Tron (1982), which is the reason that you will find one of these hidden Mickeys in the background when the solar sailer got hijacked. You might not have noticed if you haven’t heard about it.

The Lion King – Floating Dust Scene

Now, this is a pretty controversial scene that came from an unlikely source. In The Lion King (1994), there was a moment when an adult Simba slumped dejectedly on a dusty cliff. This caused some of the dirt to float into the say and subtly formed some letters. At first, people thought that it said S-E-X! As a children’s film, this caused some outrage. However, they later claimed that it instead said S-F-X as a nod to the artists working on the special effects of the movie. What do you think?

The Little Mermaid – Disguised Ursula Wedding Scene

Even though the previous one has yet to be verified, we can’t think of an excuse for this scene from The Little Mermaid. Near the end of the movie, Eric was about to get married to Ursula while she was in disguise. Viewers saw the priest as he was moving around and preparing to marry the two of them. People noticed that his crotch seemed to be protruding outward as if he got a little too excited! The truth was that it was actually nothing more than his knee. This might be the case, but Disney decided to fix this error in the new versions of the film.

Deadpool 2 – Vanisher’s Death Scene

Deadpool might not be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his two movies are full of Easter eggs that comic fans will love. However, the one we are going to talk about has nothing to do with comic books. In Deadpool 2, we are introduced to the Vanisher, who is a member of X-Force. The character is actually invisible, so we have no idea what he looked like until he died while parachuting and stumbling into power lines. While he was getting electrocuted, his face appeared onscreen. Were you also shocked to see that it was Brad Pitt?!

Fast Times At Ridgemont High – Pool Scene

If you consider yourself a movie buff, you are probably not shocked to find Fast Times at Ridgemont High on the list. After all, the movie has one of the most iconic pool scenes in modern cinema. We are referring to the scene in which Phoebe Cates exited from the pool and unclasped her bikini to show everything that she has. The truth was that this all happened in Brad’s head, but it is still iconic in our books.

Star Wars – Storm Trooper Scene

We doubt that you are surprised to find another Star Wars entry on the list. George Lucas decided to revisit this scene and add a surprising edit. There is a scene when the door lifted up and then the Storm Troopers filed in. However, there was a trooper who ended up hitting their head on the door! This clearly took them by surprise. This is probably one of the most famous errors in the slideshow. As a matter of fact, the director decided to add sound effects to it later on!

The Wizard Of Oz – Munchkin Scene

The Wizard of Oz also offers a lot of things going on in the background that will make you press pause. This one spread thanks to an urban legend. It goes that there was a body that looked like it was swinging and hanging from a rope in one of the forest scenes of the movie. When people noticed that this was going on, there was a conspiracy theory that a munchkin actor killed themselves on the set. The studio, of course, denied these claims and said that there were no actors with dwarfism on the set on that day. Technology has allowed this theory to be fully debunked when high definition versions of the film came out. In reality, it was nothing more than a huge bird. It is a relief to hear that!

Three Men And A Baby – Ghost Scene

Up next, we have one more urban legend that has caused many viewers to hit the pause button. If you watch Three Men and a Baby, you might be tempted to do the same thing when you reach the scene when there looked like a young boy behind the curtain in a ghostly visage. When it caught the attention of the public, there was an urban legend that started to go around that it was shot in a haunted house. People said that it was the ghost of a boy who once lived there. However, studio execs ended this rumor by saying that they used a studio lot to film the movie. On top of that, the figure was actually a promotional cardboard of Ted Danson that was folded in half.

Basic Instinct – Interrogation Scene

Do you want us to explain which part of Basic Instinct had people pausing the movie? If this is the case, you probably do not have the best knowledge of movies. Otherwise, you would have known that we are thinking about the interrogation scene in which Sharon Stone was being questioned for the murder of her boyfriend. As this was going on, she shifted her posture in the chair and uncrossed her legs to leave them slightly open for the briefest of moments. She had no underwear on in that scene either. We hope that tells you everything you need to know about this iconic scene!

The Wolf Of Wall Street – Nursery Scene

From what we now know about Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Basic Instinct is clear that viewers like scenes that can be considered naughty. This is where The Wolf of Wall Street comes in. There are plenty of memorable scenes in the movie, but we daresay that Margot Robbie was the true star in all of it! The film made it to the list for the nursery scene in which she tantalized Leonardo DiCaprio with her “no touching” rule! What she did not seem to realize is the fact that her onscreen husband was a jealous man with cameras scattered in the house. One of them would be the teddy bear, which happened to be recording all of her antics!

Jurassic World – Pterodactyl Attack Scene

We will now depart from naughty antics and focus on a rather unexpected cameo in one of the biggest movies out there. There is no doubt that you are familiar with Jurassic World and the pterodactyl attack as the dinosaurs wreaked havoc on pedestrians! While the dinos were attacking the outdoor area of a café, you can see a man wearing a bright orange shirt that had a white cap. He got up from the table but made sure to bring his margaritas with him. Can you think of a musician who is famous for singing about margaritas? Yes, this extra was actually none other than Jimmy Buffett!

Raiders Of The Lost Ark – Confrontation Scene

To this day, it is hard to find a cooler and more beloved hero than Indiana Jones. Part of his fame goes to all the charm and charisma of Harrison Ford. Do you remember this scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark? Indy ended up confronting Nazis carrying a bazooka and asking them to leave and release Marion. Belloq, played by Paul Freeman, then asked our favorite archaeologist not to fire. While he was speaking, viewers have noticed that there was a fly that landed on the actor’s face and crawled into his mouth. To his credit, we are very impressed that he was able to keep delivering his lines!

Man Of Steel – Space Battle Scene

In Man of Steel (2013), we saw Superman battle General Zod. When the movie came out, it was not yet certain if the movie was going to be a part of a bigger DC Comics movie universe. Despite this, there were a lot of Easter eggs that referenced the comics anyway. In the final battle between Superman and Zod, they were duking it out and effectively destroying the Metropolis. They even had to take it to the outer parts of the atmosphere and crashed into a satellite while they did so. If you hit pause right then, you might have noticed that there was a “Wayne” sign on the satellite! Do we really need to explain that this was a nod to Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman?

Ghostbusters – Ghost Outbreak Scene

Ghostbusters took the world by storm when it was released in 1984. Part of its popularity had to do with the fact that it appealed to people of all ages. Who would have ever thought that a porn star was going to make a cameo in the film? Ron Jeremy was one of the biggest porn stars of the ‘70s, although he did appear in mainstream movies as well. He is usually cast as an extra, which is the case for Ghostbusters. He was spotted in a crowd as a ghost outbreak took place on the street.

Teen Wolf – End Scene

We have to admit that Teen Wolf did not age as well as Back to the Future. However, this Michael J. Fox film is still enjoyable to watch. People have noticed a weird moment right before the credits started to roll. The main character was celebrating a basketball win when this happened. As the camera panned to the bleachers, there was a person in the stands that had their fly down! This was the case, but some people had mistakenly been under the impression that his manhood was also on display. The producers decided to address these rumors and put an end to them. First of all, the upper body of the person was never displayed. Next, they said that it was not a man but a woman! Perhaps she unbuttoned her pants because her costume was way too tight. Who knows? At any rate, it must have shocked a lot of viewers when they first caught a glimpse of it.

Moana

One of the most popular Disney movies from the last decade is Moana. It’s a beautiful animated musical about a Hawaiian teenager who embarks on a journey to save her people and find herself. Many have said that this movie is jam-packed with ‘easter eggs’ that people would be able to catch on too easily. During the movie Moana starts on her journey, she seeks the help of Maui, a demigod who owns a magical hook. This hook allows Maui to transform into any animal he wants. Maui uses his hook to quickly transform from animal to animal. The transformation goes so fast that audiences are bound to miss each one, however one of the animals Maui transforms into is Sven, the lovable reindeer from Frozen. You obviously need to pause this scene to see it properly

Tangled- “I Have A Dream”

The Disney movie Tangled is based on another well known Disney film – Repunzel. For those who don’t know,  the movie Tangled features a princess with gorgeous, long locks that is actually full of magic. Unfortunately, she is trapped inside a tower as she was kidnapped a baby by an old woman. One of the scenes takes place inside a tavern, it is this exact scene which is most commonly paused. Why? Because if you look closely, you can see the very famous Pinocchio sitting up on one of the beams.

Monsters, Inc. – Boo & Sully

Monster, Inc was released back in 2001 and is such a beautiful movie about a young girl from the human world who visits the biggest scare factory in the monster world. At one point in the film, Boo (the young girl) and Sully are in her room together and she is showing him a few of her favorite toys, including one that is now very familiar to many…a stuffed Nemo. The weird part is that the movie Finding Nemo had not been released just yet. So it was only a few years later that diehard fans were grabbing the remote to hit the pause button at the sight of their favorite fish in another one of their favorite films.

Big Hero 6- Filing A Report At The Police Station

Big Hero 6 is a superhero strut about a robotics genius who lives in a futurist city. The young boy, Hiro Hamada, puts together a team of superheroes in his attempt to catch a mysterious masked villain. This paused moment would have been easily been seen by all you Frozen fans. During this scene, Hiro heads off to the police station to file a report. On the “wanted” poster hanging on the wall shows none other than Prince Hans — the villain of Disney’s 2013 Frozen. Crazy, right?

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? – Car Crash Scene

When you watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, you should be on the lookout for background gags and Easter gags. Despite everything, the most paused scene involves Jessica Rabbit. When the car crashed into an electric pole, the redhead was seen flying through the air. Her dress went up for a moment, but it was enough to let us know that she went commando. This happened very briefly, but you should be able to see it if you press pause at the right moment. However, her dress has since been altered in later versions to cover her fully. That is where the photo you are looking at came from!

Fight Club – Tyler Durden Appearances

On that note, we have yet another movie that has Brad Pitt in it. Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably seen Fight Club at least once in your life. Spoiler alert, but we eventually learn that Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt, is simply the alter ego of the Narrator, played by Edward Norton. A lot of observant viewers have drawn our attention to the fact that Tyler Durden actually appeared four times before he was officially introduced. It is amazing to hear just how much thought they put into the creation of this movie!

Cinderella

Disney’s Cinderella came out during the 1950s and has been enchanting viewers for decades. But what we don’t realize is that the movie actually has another claim to fame. Did you know that the castle featured in the movie is the same castle that forms the basis for Walt Disney Pictures’ logo? Now you may think this is an obvious one, but Cinderella’s castle was actually first introduced as part of Dinsey’s logo around 1995. Over time it’s developed to what it is today. Next time you watch Cinderella, it’s worth hitting the pause button during the scene when we first see the castle to see how familiar it seems.

Hercules

Most people believe that The Lion King is the best Disney movie to ever be made. And yes, we have to agree it is possibly the most iconic film ever made. One of the main characters is the villain named Scar who actually makes a cameo in the film Hercules. Although it is very brief, Hercules is seen wearing lion skin. The two theories go as follows, this was a reference to one of Hercules’ twelve labors, which was killing the Nemean Lion. And the other one suggests that it was also a reference to a joke that Zazu in The Lion King, where he suggested that Scar be made into a throw rug. Either way, audiences rushed for the remote to pause this quick moment.

Fight Club

During the movie, most audiences were pausing a few scenes throughout the entire movie. Why? Because at first they thought they were seeing Starbucks cups everywhere, but of course doubted themselves. Although the first rule of Fight Club is that you don’t talk about Fight Club. And we all know that the second rule of Fight Club is: you DO NOT talk about Fight Club but this is something that definitely needs to be clarified. Indeed, a Starbucks coffee cup was nearly placed into every single scene in the movie.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace – Senate Scene

Among all the films in the Star Wars franchise, The Phantom Menace is one of the less popular ones. On top of some questionable performances, we have to admit that the script was not the best either. These are some of the reasons why many fans consider it to be a low point for the sci-fi series. Despite everything, this is one scene that drew people in for a closer look. We are talking about a scene in the galactic senate. The Asogians, which is the same alien race that E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, were seen with the other species in the series.

Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame – Street Scene

Even before the Marvel Cinematic Universe was owned by Disney, artists and writers liked to insert Easter eggs in many animated films. The Hunchback of Notre Dame had one of the most subtle cameos. You should check out the scene that involves Quasimodo singing his heart out from above. If you pay attention to the ground, you can spot Belle from Beauty and the Beast, the Magic Carpet from Aladdin, and Pumba from The Lion King! How cool is that?

The Graduate – Bedroom Scene

Good luck looking for a dark comedy that can top The Graduate. It has been over 50 years since it was first released, but it has aged well. It received seven Oscar nominations, and people still reference the ending to this day. A lot of folks can’t help but hit pause when Mrs. Robinson, played by Anne Bancroft, undressed to seduce Benjamin Braddock, who was portrayed by Dustin Hoffman.

The Cabin In The Woods – White Board Scene

You do not need to enjoy classic horror films to enjoy watching The Cabin in the Woods. It is a masterful film that poked fun at the horror genre! It was, needless to say, a very satisfying movie. We are not going to explain how so that you can enjoy it for yourself. Despite this, allow us to talk about the white dry-erase board behind the men in suits. There is a list of big figures in the horror genre on it. We are sure that anyone will enjoy taking a look at it and seeing the names of familiar characters.

102 Dalmations vs Lady And The Tramp

102 Dalmatians is the sequel of 101 Dalmations, which was a film based on Walt Disney’s animated 1961 movie. It is such an adorable movie filled with adventure and can definitely be enjoyed by all ages. What’s even more delightful is that during the movie, the dalmations are watching the iconic, animated film Lady & The Tramp. At first, many viewers did not exactly catch on to the easter egg but after replaying the paused moment, its definitely something that warms the heart, right?

Toy Story 3 – The Garbage Man

We all know and love the movie, Toy Story. And if you’re a diehard Disney fan you should be able to recognize all the pausable moments in all three of the films. But just in case you didn’t, one of the most paused moments in Toy Story 3, was during the scene with the garbage man. But first let’s backtrack to the first film, where we introduced to a rascal of a child named Sid, who got a thrill out of experimenting with toys. Now while watching the third film, if you pause at the right exact moment, you will see the garbage man wearing the exact t-shirt as Sid. A black shirt with a white skull…the same one worn by Sid. Now, most viewers believe that this is Sid, these rumors have not been confirmed- yet.

The Dark Knight – The Schmeing Nurse

Considered to be one of Heath Ledger’s best films, The Dark Knight is a superhero movie that was actually based on the DC Comics character- Batman. Many viewers have said that there were many easter eggs that were quite obvious throughout the film. But the one that stood out the most was during the hospital scene when the Joker’s nurse outfit has an incredible hidden message. The name tag reads, “Matilda”. What’s the coincidence? Well, Mathilda is actually the name of his daughter who he pays tribute to in the movie.

The Godfather – Oranges Everywhere

One of the oldest and well-known easter eggs in The Godfather is orange. Why you may ask? So oranges actually mean death, most fans know that if a character in any way eats, slices, or handles an orange, death is very near for them. Its a bit more obvious during Part III of the trilogy, which is why the earlier two installments have a lot more paused moments. Perhaps you need to take a closer look and be sure to have a remote nearby. We don’t want to reveal any spoilers so make sure to be focused every time you spot an orange!

The Beauty And The Beast -Gaston Falling To His Death

Here’s another one for all you Disney fans! The original Beauty And The Beast took the world by storm during the early 1900s, and of course, no Disney movie is not complete without a villain. After Gaston stabs the beast, he loses his balance and falls off the rooftop. Although he is considered the villain, at a young age when you watch a man fall to his death its pretty scary, right? But as a kid, what you probably missed is that while Gaston is falling, you can see skulls in his eyes. Don’t believe us? Go back and take a look!
