But the story Dator shared becomes even more touching. He said, you see, that Reeves had thrown something in the garbage on his way out of the office. And it had dawned on Dator, as a result, that the star had gone out of his way to make a fan happy. Dator said, “I realize later that [Reeves] bought an ice cream cone he didn’t want just to get receipt paper so he could scribble his autograph for a 16-year-old idiot.”
