An understandably devastated Reeves put his work obligations on hold under the shadow of this tragedy to cope with his grief. As the fatal accident occurred, the star was set to film both The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions back to back. Guitarist Bret Domrose, who played with Reeves in the grunge outfit Dogstar, would go on to claim that before resuming his career, his bandmate needed “peace and time.”

Channeling The Grief
Years later, while working on the original John Wick, Reeves explored channeling this sense of grief. In 2019 he told The Guardian, “For the character and in life, it’s about the love of the person you’re grieving for, and any time you can keep company with that fire, it is warm. I absolutely relate to that, and I don’t think you ever work through it. Grief and loss – those are things that don’t ever go away. They stay with you.”
