The little girl had a terrified expression on her face. She cast a glance over at her brother, who’d been selling candy a short distance away, but he’s too far away to notice what was going on. Another customer approached just as the woman was about to retaliate with more venom. He inquired, “What’s going on?” and “Are you selling this candy?” He didn’t appear to be the sheriff. He could have been the shop manager. The little girl went completely still.

She explained, “She doesn’t have a permit and she doesn’t have permission from the store to sell food on their premises.” “But don’t be concerned,” she added. “I’ve contacted the authorities.” Jay Lopez, the man, was now perplexed.
