She had to believe he worked at Target as well and was on her corner. Lopez realized that something needed to be done about the situation, so he knelt down and spoke calmly to the little teenager on her level.

“How much are you asking for these?” Lopez enquired of the young lady. The girl replied, “A dollar each, sir.” Lopez regained his balance. He said to the grumpy old lady, “You should be ashamed of yourself,” before pulling out his wallet to buy something from the girl. He immediately noticed, however, that he had paid with his credit card in the store and had no money to offer her. The haughty lady smiled.
