Even though he barely appears halfway through the film, this courageous and devoted Roughnecks soldier made quite an impact on the audience. Sergeant Sugar Watkins faithfully and loyally serves Lt. Jean Rasczak. His bravery had been the focus of his character development. Viewers are usually saddened when they have to say goodbye to this stoic figure, who gives himself away while slaying as many Warrior Bugs as he can. Rico and Ace have the opportunity to flee and survive as a result of his sacrifice.
