Soon, Julia became the topic of the William Allen Middle School talk. Every day of the week, she wore her gray dress, and people could not turn their attention away from it. The speculation started flying. There was concern about some of the teachers. Has Mrs. Mooney faced difficulties? Students, too, started wondering. But, as every high school student knows, teenagers may be ruthless.

The Elephant In The Room
Julia continued teaching as she avoided the elephant in the room. The snickers and whispers in the halls and the playground were known to her. And her colleagues had begun to see her differently and treated her as if she were frail, but on her wardrobe, they refused to question her explicitly. She knew she had to ride it out, though. She was prepared to stay out of the race. So she knew the best way was to put her head down.
