When Bill Gates participated in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” thread, he explained that his children are not going to be better off if he gave them his wealth. He received inspiration from Warren Buffett and plans to leave his money to worthy causes. Together with his wife, he runs a charity known as The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He is now working with Buffett to encourage other billionaires to do this.

Warren Buffett has definitely not been shy about his dislike of leaving family members an inheritance. “I’m not an enthusiast for dynastic wealth, particularly when 6 billion others have much poorer hands than we do in life,” he said during a 2006 event that followed his announcement to give away the majority of his wealth. He has since pledged away 99% of his wealth to charity. On top of that, he likes to even encourage fellow billionaires to donate at least 50% of their money through The Giving Pledge.
