Disney bought the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas for $4.5 billion. The filmmaker said that he will give away the proceeds towards improving the quality of education. This dad of four has also committed to donating his wealth. In 2012, his Giving Pledge letter said, “As long as I have the resources at my disposal, I will seek to raise the bar for future generations of students of all ages.”

Ted Turner launched the Turner Foundation in 1990. It gives out grants about environmental causes. He opened it as a family foundation so that his children could also get involved in philanthropic work. He also launched the United Nations Foundation with an initial pledge of $1 billion. The media mogul said, “At the time of my death, virtually all my wealth will have gone to charity.”
