When the wedding day came closer, Charles started to feel anxious. In her book about Prince Charles, Sally Bedell Smith (royal biographer) believed that Charles was still in love with his ex-girlfriend Camilla Parker-Bowers. His father pushed him to end his relationship with her and marry Diana. Smith says that the Prince cried the night before Diana’s wedding. After Prince William and Harry were born, Charles rekindled his affair with Camilla in front of the whole world.

Designers were scrambling not only because of Diana’s gown but also because of something else. Diana is a bit taller than other people, so she wanted shoes that were a little lower. “Her biggest fear was that she wouldn’t be taller than Prince Charles because since she was very tall — 5ft 10in — the shoes would have to have a short heel,” explained Cobbler Clive Shilton. Each slipper was exquisitely detailed and stunning. Every one-of-a-kind silk slipper was embellished with 542 sequins and 132 pearls, as well as a “C” and “D” painted on the shoes’ secret arch and a love heart.
