The first cloning of a mammal was first achieved in 1995. How is this significant? Well, as we’ve mentioned earlier, it was named Dolly! Ian Wilmut, head scientist of the experiment, was quoted saying: “Dolly is derived from a mammary gland cell and we couldn’t think of a more impressive pair of glands than Dolly Parton’s.”

Dolly was quite excited when they named the cloned sheep after her. She was quoted saying, “She was called after me because she had big mammary glands. She gave me a lot of competition… but I always said there’s no such thing as baaad publicity.”
