A Man Called Sir John Anderson
In 1938, before the outbreak of the Second World War, the job of training citizens for war was entrusted to a man named Sir John Anderson. This wasn’t an easy thing to do, mind you. His job was to build a programme that would defend Britain’s people from the explosions and assaults that were likely to come. He drew up a strategy to guarantee that people will be protected for this cause.
Building Backyard Shelters
Along with a team of engineers, Sir John Anderson designed and supported individuals with the construction of basic backyard underground shelters. For these bunkers, it was necessary to stay near to the house so that they could withdraw at any given moment. The structure’s walls were constructed of a flexible and lightweight metal that was stronger than concrete. Overall, more than two million such bomb shelters have been installed throughout the world. This was not what Simon learned, though!
