I stood in the restroom and gazed at my image in the mirror. My rage increased as I relived every one of Sandra’s remarks. What had begun as tears of grief turned became tears of rage. I clenched my hands and whispered to myself, “Enough is enough.” I couldn’t stand another minute of her constant teasing without retaliating, even if this was her birthday meal. I came back to the table determined. Sandra sat down, her eyebrows going up as though she felt something was off.
