Contract Clause
Out of all the stars, Dawn Wells earned the most from Gilligan’s Island. She can thank her husband at the time when she signed on for the show. He was a TV agent and wisely advised her to add a special clause to her contract. Within this clause, the fine print stipulated Wells must receive royalties from all Gilligan’s Island syndications. Think about every time you saw reruns of the show…yeah, she’s still earning money!

Lots of times, show creators envision a specific actor to play their character. Sadly, the first choice may not want the role or be available. Turns out, Dawn Wells was the back up for 60’s star Raquel Welch! Welch turned down the role, which many claim saved her career because the Gilligan’s Island stars had trouble getting parts after the show. That was the one down side after the stars made it big…they became so identified with their characters.
