Mike moved closer to the group of nurses standing there, talking with their heads hunched over. The air throbbed with the soft murmur of their voices. Although he was unable to see much, their solemn expressions spoke for themselves. They weren’t chatting casually about patients, whatever they were talking about. Their hushed chat had an air of urgency that made Mike’s heart race. In an attempt to hear them more clearly, he leaned closer.

A Chance Distraction
Suddenly, the nurses were alerted by a loud clatter coming from the hallway. Mike’s heart pounding, he grabbed the moment. He seemed to have been given this ideal diversion by fate at the exact moment he needed it. Mike was able to get a better look as the nurses looked away from their chatter. He moved forward cautiously, hoping to infiltrate their conversation or at least hear something important.
