The Unthinkable Act
Annie repeated the same thing with a second helping of pasta, much to Thad’s amazement and surprise. Annie left the expensive, delectable food that his mother had lovingly and painstakingly cooked in the trash. Feeling bewildered and offended, Thad went up to Annie and demanded to know why she had thrown out the food. Annie, however, said nothing and would not explain. Thad was so frustrated and desperate to get the truth that he realized he had no choice but to look at the hidden camera footage.

Thad had always taken pleasure in his ability to be fair, reasonable, and grounded. He had never been the type to behave without careful consideration or to draw hasty judgments. Yet here he was, standing in his kitchen, feeling guilty over a choice that seemed more and more wrong. He had to deal with the repercussions since he had gone too far. Weeks had passed since Thad first became aware of Annie’s peculiar conduct. Before he saw the video, he needed to discuss it with her.
