A River Crossing
Apparently, Toinette and Jeanne crossed the river on their way to the other side of the grotto, continuing their journey away. On the other hand, Bernadette appeared afraid to do so for fear of being cold, so she looked for a dryer way to avoid the cold. Finally, the adolescent girl concluded that she would have to take her shoes and stockings off to cross the river safely.
A Figure Appeared
She then sat down to take off her shoes when she believed she heard a burst of wind, which she mistook for the wind. Although this was the case, practically everything was deafeningly quiet. The only item in the grotto that seemed to move in response to the breeze was a wild rose in full bloom. Bernadette also said that at this point, a figure appeared out of nowhere in the darkness of the cave, surprising her.
