To avoid contact with dangerous chemicals, employees in the manufacturing business use face masks and gloves. Only two out of every ten apples on the market are grown locally. Every year, China exports 3600 tons of apples.

In October 2012, norovirus-infected frozen strawberries from China were blamed for causing severe diarrhea and vomiting in over 10,000 persons, primarily children, and adolescents, in a number of German towns.
