A Shocking Jolt
Someone ran into the ultrasonography machine amid the confusion. The scenario was much more muddled as the image on the television twisted and danced. Time was passing quickly, and Becky could feel her instincts screaming at her. That dog was not waiting for them to discover what was going on inside of it. She felt as though she was competing with an unseen clock as she cautiously viewed the sight.

They wheeled the bull terrier into the little, dark operation room at the rear and put her onto a trolley. The air was sharply scented with sterility. The youngest vet tech, Lucy, hovered close by. “This doesn’t look right, Becky,” she said, her voice almost audible above a whisper. Unconfident in her ability to talk, Becky nodded. Her gaze remained fixed on the shuddering dog as she sensed the growing tension all around them.
