I sighed, resisting the urge to say, “I told you you were being too harsh,” and instead muttered, “I’ll go talk to him.” I headed upstairs and knocked on Jason’s door, but he shouted, “Leave me alone! Go away!” This wasn’t out of the ordinary for him lately, but I remained firm, replying, “I’ll sit here until you’re ready to talk.” My tone was calm and stern, yet still filled with love. It worked—soon enough, he opened the door. But when I saw what he had done, I was left speechless.

“Jason… I… What are you doing?!” I finally exclaimed, unable to process what was happening. “You have no idea what you’ve done!” He shouted back angrily, and what he did next completely blindsided both me and Adam.
