Betrayed Calm
I couldn’t get rid of the feeling that something wasn’t quite right, even though her remarks made sense. Her calm manner was betrayed by the way her eyes darted about the room as she spoke. Her eyes seemed to be screaming one thing while her lips was expressing another. I made an effort to concentrate on what she was saying, but those anxious eyes conveyed a completely different message.

I vowed to catch Madelyn in the act if there was anything to catch because I was determined to find the truth. “All right,” I responded, making every effort to appear persuaded. But my determination solidified on the inside. I would wait and hope my intuition was mistaken. If something wasn’t right, I wouldn’t stop until I found out.
