Bernadette’s unexpected encounter with the mystery vision was later reported to her sister Toinette. The latter was surprised and intrigued by it. The adolescent girl allegedly promised her younger sister to keep the information a secret. Still, it appears that Toinette eventually notified their parents of the incident. So when news of the apparition in the grotto circulated swiftly around Lourdes, it was a good sign.

Bernadette, on the other hand, was completely unaware that this would not be her final vision. In fact, she was claimed to have had 18 of them between the spring and summer of 1858. According to legend, Bernadette went back to the cave after church on February 14th of that year, marking her second visit. It has been said that this time, the adolescent girl traveled with her sister Marie and other pals.
