Years Of Service
These 12 submarines are set to be in service from 2042 all the way until 2085 – 43 years in total. The reason behind the name Columbia is said to be a commemoration of the United States Capitol. In October of 2020, it was announced that the second submarine would be named USS Wisconson while the lead submarine would be named the USS Columbia (SSBN-826). Despite the fact that these submarines are still evolving, they have some very impressive characteristics.

General Characteristics
While the Ohio-class submarines required a mid-life refueling, the Columbia-class will have a nuclear fuel core that will be sufficient to power it for the entirety of its expected service life. Like the Ohio-class submarines, the Columbia-class submarines will be equipped with the 42-foot (13 m) beam or better. Not to mention, these new submarines are going to have 16 missile launch tubes rather than 24 like the Ohio-class submarines.
